Kelpies Cottage is in Glentrool Village, which is situated in Galloway Forest Park in Scotland. It is the only village in our International Dark Sky Park which is why we get such awesome starry nights. We are also a UNESCO-designated Biosphere Community.

The houses in our village, including Kelpies (and Culsharg) Cottage were built in the 1950's to house Forestry Workers and their families. There are not many forestry workers in the village now as forestry practices have changed dramatically since then, but the village is still very much a small and friendly community of people who enjoy the peace and beauty of living in a forest.

Kelpies Cottage is a single-storey bungalow which has been simply furnished. It is colourfully decorated with comfortable beds and a lovely log burning stove in the living room. The cottage is double glazed and has oil-fired central heating. During your stay you can have as many baskets of logs as you desire, and we can help you "fire up" if you need assistance. Kelpies Cottage is directly across the road from Culsharg Cottage in the village.

The kitchen is modern and has the usual appliances  of cooker, fridge/freezer, microwave oven, kettle and toaster, plus a dishwasher. The hot water is an "on-demand"  via the oil-fired boiler. The bathroom has a large bath with shower over and glass enclosure. There is plenty of free on-site parking. Dogs are welcome, but the cottage has wooden flooring throughout, so please be sure your pooch is happy with that and also with staying off the furniture and beds. The front bedroom has a double bed and plenty of storage. The rear bedroom has a double bed and a single bed. The cottage is thus suitable for  up to 5 people enjoying a break away together. Fresh bed linen is provided for each guest along with a single bath towel for each guest and hand towels for the kitchen and bathroom.

In the living room there are a couple of sofas and a table/chairs for meals. While there is a TV and DVD player provided in the cottage, there is no TV reception (or licence), but there is a Roku streaming device on which you can watch a limited number of free channels. If you have a Netflix or Amazon Prime Account, feel free to configure the Roku to allow you access, but please remember to clear it before you leave. We also make a range of DVDs available for the odd quiet night in, and you can of course bring your own too. There is a free Wi-Fi service inside the cottage, though signal is strongest in the front rooms of the cottage.

The entire bungalow is available to guests, barring a few cupboards for cleaning and maintenance materials.
